I read an article about a month ago that a 15-year-old Afghan boy was hung for carrying US currency. Dollar bills were stuffed in his mouth and he was put on display as a warning to other Afghans, pretty much daring them to carry any western currency. Here's my question: Do we try and help the youth in the middle east possible get out or stay out of it?

Once again, we're faced with the question: should we protect human rights, or respect national sovereignty? Of course, staying out could very well achieve both goals at the same time, but there's really no easy answer to that question, especially when the malicious deeds committed are sort of "in the middle." If it were genocide, you can bet we'll swoop in and carry the people to safety (but not America. No immigrants plz.) If people are being tortured by means of tickling, we're staying the hell out. It's a case-by-case basis, see, and there are a few things to consider: 1 - What rights are being violated to what extent? 2 - What diplomatic consequences will we face should we choose to "invade"? and 3 - How easily can we pull it off with the resources we have?

In this case, the murder is bizarre, but not happening on a wide enough scale. Also, the US has kind of lost its international credibility as far as dealing with moral crises goes.

My point was that this should not have happened in the first place. No matter how widescale or not it is, it still shouldn't happen. I think the youth willing to be brought out of the middle east should be given the opportunity.
